USAID Open Justice Project Helps Digitize Millions of Pages of Court Records

With the help of the USAID Open Justice project in Moldova, the 740,824 decisions from the Chisinau District Court’s 1973–2009 paper archive, amounting to over 2,278 million pages, were digitized.

The Project team also developed a web application that connects the digitized archive with the new ICMS – Integrated Case Management System, so that judges and court staff from the Chisinau District Court can search and access the digitized decisions online. This is a big step forward in ensuring judicial efficiency, as well as greater transparency once all legal preconditions are met for sharing the court records with the public.
